A Dog's Life

It is easy to forget that there is a God who created us.
To whom then will you compare me, or who is my equal? says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high and see: Who created these? He who brings out their host and numbers them, calling them all by name; because he is great in strength, mighty in power, not one is missing. Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God"? Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. - Isa. 40:25-31
Even back in Isaiah's day, when people were much more attuned to their faith, Isaiah had to remind them that God is real.
Why do we lose faith?
Perhaps we are like those dogs on social media that long to be held and loved, locked in a cage, waiting to be adopted.
We are much more connected to them than to one another.
God is the one who comes to adopt us, to make us His own, and yet we forget. When the dog's owner leaves for work, the dog waits by the door or lays down, but he believes the owner will return. He waits for it and is overjoyed when it happens.
Even those dogs who are kept busy all day with children and walk in the park long for the return of the one they know loves them.
Isaiah is telling us we need to have a dog's life when it comes to longing for God.
Imagine if the dog was so busy each day when the master was away that he didn't have time for the owner when he returned from work. That wouldn't be a dog at all.
That would be a cat.
More to come...
