Asking for Help

Sometimes I think there is nothing we cannot achieve.
Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it. ‘If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you for ever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you. - John 14:12-17
Wouldn't it be great is we could get whatever we want just by asking?
Lately I have found that people ask for things I cannot do, or at least I think I cannot do them. They may need help with something outside my area of expertise, so I try to point them in another direction. That may not lead to a solution for them, but what else can I do?
Well, if I believe in Jesus and follow the example he sets, I might change my approach and seek help for the person in need. If I am not afraid to ask others for help, I may find a path that leads to help.
Too often, I think, we stifle ourselves by limiting the actions we are willing to take to those we believe will lead to success.
If we take on the problem as our own, and we seek help form people in our network, we may find someone else who will be willing to do the same. Before we know it, the path may open up and a light may shine on the problem.
The challenge with this approach is that all of us involved have to keep at it. We have to believe there is a solution waiting to be found, or we will give up.
That is really the message I think. Don't give up. Believe it is already done, and your prayers will be answered.
If we just do what we believe we can, and nothing else, we will probably not be able to help, but if we keep at it until a path can be found, we will find success.
So, the next time someone asks us for help, we should know we can find a way, through the light of Christ.
More to come...
