Avengers

What is your gift?
The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ. We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by people's trickery, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming. But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body's growth in building itself up in love. - Ephesians 4:11-16
According to today's reading from the Letter to the Ephesians, each of the followers is given a gift by Christ, and that gift helps to build the body of Christ, the community of believers doing good in the world.
So, we should take a close look at the gifts we have to offer and how we are using them, but we should also look to work together.
In a way, the followers are a lot like super heroes. The Avengers were a big hit this past weekend, and they represent this concept fairly well. Alone they are awesome, each with a special super power, but together, they are unbeatable.
Imagine how amazing we could be in our daily ministries if we teamed up with others who did different things.
I believe Jesus' hope for us was simple. If all become followers, and all work together, no one will be in need of anything.
What we do on our own is great, but what we accomplish together is supernatural.
So, let us go, team up, and become Avengers.
More to come...
