Dream Catcher

What inspires you?
Is there something that drives you to do what you do, act the way you act, be who you seek to be?
Have you ever experienced a vision or had a dream that changed that picture in a radically real way?
And he said, "Hear my words: When there are prophets among you, I the LORD make myself known to them in visions; I speak to them in dreams." - Numbers 12:6
In today's reading from Numbers, God provides insight into the way he works through us and with us. He tells Miriam and Aaron, who set themselves as equal to Moses, that they hear God in their dreams and visions, not face-to-face, like Moses.
Moses is special, but that doesn't mean what Miriam and Aaron have is that much less amazing. They are the dream catchers. They receive messages through images, stories, thoughts and circumstances that somehow stand out from the norm. Something tells them this dream or vision or message is from God.
So, the question is this, are they special?
I wonder. Could it be that all of us have the ability to tune in to the God channel when and if we choose?
Could we learn how to be dream catchers, too? Or is it something we have from birth and then lose as we get older?
Children have an ability to imagine without limits. They conjure up worlds, people, experiences that we, as adults, find curious and yet impractical, childish.
In Matthew, chapter 18, Jesus begins telling his disciples how he is with them whenever two or three gather together, He uses the example of little children. They have a special connection with God in his kingdom.
"Take care that you do not despise one of these little ones; for, I tell you, in heaven their angels continually see the face of my Father in heaven. - Matthew 18:10
Perhaps we need to become like children again, to reconnect with those angels, to open our minds and our eyes to the visions and dreams God is sending to us, and not brush them off as meaningless.
Paul tells us that some of us have the ability to dream and others to understand those dreams, so perhaps, we are catchers but don't know it. Maybe in sharing the dreams, someone close to us can help us understand the messages they contain.
Then we would all get to know God and ourselves a bit better.
Now, I could be wrong, but I can dream, can't I?
More to come...
