Escaped Thoughts

Imagine if you could be arrested for your thoughts.
“You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to go into hell. "It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' But I say to you that anyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. "Again, you have heard that it was said to those of ancient times, 'You shall not swear falsely, but carry out the vows you have made to the Lord.' But I say to you, Do not swear at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. Let your word be 'Yes, Yes' or 'No, No' anything more than this comes from the evil one. - Matt. 5:27-37
Is thinking something a sin?
We are living in an age where we reveal our thoughts more often than ever before. We no sooner think them, that we post them and let the whole world in on our rant.
That has consequences.
Our thoughts are meant to be free of consequences. We should be able to have evil thoughts from time to time, just to let loose. You cannot regulate thought, unless it the thoughts are revealed through actions.
Maybe we should consider the psycho-babble of social media escaped thoughts, thoughts that really didn't want to be aired in public, but somehow made it out there.
There are so many people apologizing for things they posted, it almost makes more sense to just ignore everything.
Why get upset over a rant of an ignorant post?
Sure, we should expect better behavior from those in charge, like presidents, prime ministers, legislators, mayors and the like, but they are only human, right?
Now when it comes to marrying a divorced woman, I have to admit, I'm guilty as charged. I didn't consider it adultery at the time, and I don't think so now.
So, maybe Jesus and I will have a talk when I see him face-to-face.
In fact, come to think of it, I am sure we will have a few things to talk about, especially if he has been reading my mind.
More to come...
