Eternal Life

Are you ready to star your eternal life journey?
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. "Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed. But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God." - John 3:16-21
Have you noticed there is no place to go to start planning for eternal life?
Now if we were told we were going to live forever, there would be thousands of organizations and advisors advertising for your business, wanting to help you make sure you have enough money for the prospect of unending life on earth.
There would be assisted living places you could check into when you were into your hundreds, just to make life a little easier for you when the bones have become weary.
No, we are not made for the long haul, not in these bodies. With planned obsolescence built into these containers, we have to get rid of them at some point.
So, why aren't we preparing ourselves for the eternal life John is talking about?
It can't be that we don't know what it will be like, so we don't talk about it. None of us knows firsthand what it is like to live into our eighties and nineties until we get there, but people have opinions about how we should approach those years.
You could say it is because no one has seen anyone living eternally. Not yet at least. So, it is like a trip for which we have no idea how to pack.
But we know enough, and have enough faith, to be able to prepare ourselves for the journey, don't we?
I know someone who has a list of questions for Jesus. She can't write them down or put them in her iPhone, so she has to think about them and be capable of reciting them when she encounters Jesus.
She doesn't need to know what to expect, but she expects to know what she believes is true.
Eternal life is a gift. It is unearned and for many, it will be unexpected. It shouldn't be a surprise, though.
We should be able to talk about it to our family and friends in a positive way, so that when the time comes, and we have to leave things and people behind, the ones we love know we were ready to make the journey.
Or at least, we were prepared that some day we would.
More to come...
