Evil Among Us

Is it possible to put a stop to the evil among us?
There seem to be a lot of groups taking their turns at doing just that. At least they want us to think that is their objective. From killing children in Pakistan to hacking into Sony, each day we hear of another attempt to spread fear in an effort to shut down the world, one target at a time.
But is that the way to combat what you believe is evil? (Assuming that is the real motive of course.)
Bold and willful, they are not afraid to slander the glorious ones, whereas angels, though greater in might and power, do not bring against them a slanderous judgement from the Lord. - 2 Peter 10:11
In today's reading, we continue with the second letter from Peter. He tells us that the type of behavior that comes form the Lord is much different from what we tend to do to each other.
Think about it.
It is a matter of point of view, isn't it? We see evil more easily in others than in ourselves, and we tend to rationalize our point of view as right, just, pure.
If they would only be like us, we say, or think, or pray.
The premier of a movie that would probably get very little attention and interest has been canceled. It is uncertain whether Sony will release the movie at all, because threats have been made against movie-goers.
Now we can take a strong stand against this action on many fronts. Hacking into anyone's system is a crime. Threatening people is a crime. Stealing is a crime. Releasing stolen information is a crime. Violating copyright laws is a crime. The list goes on and on, but we tend to take drastic measures when we feel we are right.
It seems people don't care to abide by the law all the time, but only when it suits them.
Look at the protest marches that resulted in looting, arson and violence. Is that justified?
Angels, though greater in might and power, do not bring against them a slanderous judgement from the Lord.
If we were given the power of angels, we would have annihilated ourselves by now. What's wrong with us?
Pogo said it best. "We have met the enemy..."
More to come...
