Exalted

Some people need to tell the world how generous and giving they are.
He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and regarded others with contempt: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, was praying thus, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other people: thieves, rogues, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all my income.' But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his home justified rather than the other; for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted." - Luke 18:9-14
We all like to be acknowledged for the good we do.
We know that God knows, but for some reason, that isn't enough. Maybe it is because we all judge.
I have seen numerous posts on FaceBook about Keanu Reeves. People love the fact that he gives away much of his wealth to the needy, donates to fight cancer, and lives modestly.
I wonder if he gets upset with the people who let the world know of his good deeds. They are exalting him when he may not want to be exalted.
The reason people make such a big deal about him is because he is different from most people, or they think he is.
The interesting thing about this lesson from Jesus is we cannot tell which people follow it. If you do good works without letting the world know, and the people you do them for don't tell, people have no way of knowing what you did.
Maybe that's why people need to brag about themselves.
God knows, it can be lonely being humble.
More to come...
