Face Time

Do you take a day to rest during the week?
Then he said to them, ‘The sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath; so the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath.’ - Mark 2:27-28
In today's Gospel reading, Jesus is watched carefully to see if he will break the laws of the Sabbath. He fails miserably, first picking grain to eat and then healing a man whose hand had withered.
What he tells them shocks everyone, that the Sabbath was made for us, not for God.
So what do we make of the commandment to honor the Sabbath and make it holy?
I believe we honor God when we take the time to be still with Him, to think of Him and listen to all He may seek to tell us. Having a day each week for that is what makes our relationship so strong and so special.
But finding time to visit with God in a busy, hectic week is difficult, I know. We all have our overloaded schedules and things that come up.
We may even think that God has enough to keep Him busy; He doesn't need to see and hear from us all that often. But I can get an idea what it might be like from God's perspective, when I am waiting to hear from my grandsons, for example.
Sure, they text me during the week and they call me when they need something, but I would still like to see them, to spend time with them, face-to-face.
Maybe that is the same with God, that He would like to meet with us face-to-face form time to time.
So, despite all the marvels of technology that let us communicate instantaneously from anywhere in the world, it is still better to be together, to hug and embrace, to kiss and see eye-to-eye.
What God wants is face time. And who could blame Him? It is what we all need from each other.
So, make a Sabbath day for yourself each week, and go home to God. He wants to give you a hug.
More to come...
