Finding Jesus

If you want something, you need to be willing to make your needs known.
They came to Jericho. As he and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" Jesus stood still and said, "Call him here." And they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take heart; get up, he is calling you." So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. Then Jesus said to him, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man said to him, "My teacher, let me see again." Jesus said to him, "Go; your faith has made you well." Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way. - Mark 10:46-52
Bartimaeus was not afraid to make his needs known. He cried out for attention from Jesus and he got it.
How many times have we assumed that God knows what we need?
He knows everything, so He should know how much we are suffering or how afraid we are. So, we say nothing, and we wait.
What keeps us quiet?
Are we embarrassed? Are we ashamed? Do we fear making a spectacle of ourselves?
Jesus made it easy for people to find him. He went to where they lived and traveled to towns and villages throughout the region.
He made house calls.
People who were cured by him told others where they encountered him and where he was headed.
He made himself available to them, so they could cry out and get his attention.
It is a bit harder for us today, since we don't know where to find Jesus.
But Jesus gave us a way to reach him. When two or more are gathered in His name, He promises to be with them.
So, maybe all we need to do is reach out to one person and together call on Him.
And He will ask us what it is we want Him to do, just as He did for Bartimaeus.
More to come...
