Fools At Heart

There is a myth that criminals return to the scene of the crime. That would be foolish, wouldn't it?
These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm; for them the deepest darkness has been reserved. For they speak bombastic nonsense, and with licentious desires of the flesh they entice people who have just escaped from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption; for people are slaves to whatever masters them. For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overpowered, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment that was passed on to them. It has happened to them according to the true proverb, "The dog turns back to its own vomit," and, "The sow is washed only to wallow in the mud." - 2 Peter 2:17-22
Peter talks about people becoming slaves of what masters them, which may not be other people, but rather could be behaviors.
He talks about fools, returning to the way they know, even if they learn there is a better way, using examples of dogs and pigs.
We like doing foolish things at times, don't we? It can be fun, and we see evidence of it more and more these days, with people taking selfies in dangerous places.
I guess if nothing bad happens, the memory of the excitement of the moment attracts us back.
Is it curiosity?
Perhaps. Or we may just want to revisit what we had done to refresh our memory, reinforcing the excitement or danger that led us there in the first place.
When I was young, there was the expression "Boys will be boys" which was a way of rationalizing the stupidity of these actions, but these days, boys are not alone doing foolish things.
Girls act this way too.
So, I guess we are all fools at heart.
More to come...
