Fools Together

Some may say that success is all about timing, while others may say it is due to perseverance and faith.
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch." Simon answered, "Master, we have worked all night long but have caught nothing. Yet if you say so, I will let down the nets." - Luke 5:4-5
In today's Gospel reading, Jesus tells Peter to do what may at first seem fruitless, to let down the nets one more time, after failing to catch anything all night.
We see this as a sign of Peter's faith, that despite all evidence to the contrary, Peter listens and does what he believes will not work.
But if it is an act of faith, wouldn't he have to believe it would be productive for it to succeed?
What I like about this story is that Jesus comes to Simon Peter where he works. Casting nets into the sea is what Simon does for a living. So when Jesus tells him to try again what has failed all night, he is telling him to keep working it.
Don't give up now. The fruits of your efforts are about to be received.
Before Jesus asks him to do something new, he has him do what he does best. That, I believe is what God does to us as well.
We first may be challenged to work through the slumps and pitfalls of our daily grind with faith. Give it more than our best shot and then we will be ready for true success, success doing what God has in store for us.
So, as I venture out today, I should expect that things will not always go well, but staying with them and having faith in God, I will overcome the obstacles and achieve amazing results.
In all we do, have faith.
Yes, it seems foolish at times, and that is the test of our resolve, to do what seems foolish to get to where we need to go.
So, are you with me? Let's be fools together.
More to come...
