God found Matthew at a tax booth. Where will he find you?
As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him. And as he sat at dinner in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and were sitting with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” But when he heard this, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.” - Matthew 9:9-13
People assume that God limits his calls whenever we talk about one's calling.
Because Jesus called twelve to be apostles, we tend to think they represent special people rather than average ones.
Matthew wasn't special, and neither were the fishermen, the doctor, or any of the twelve. They were common people.
They had to do something special, and that is why we think of them as special people, but we all can do something special for God if we answer His call.
Sometimes the call comes in a very common way. You hear of a job opening and someone tells you that you can do it, so you apply.
It may not feel like a calling from God. It's a job, but the opportunities to turn that job into something God wants can be great.
We may not have Jesus stopping by our place of work and chatting with us, but we may have someone else do it.
The Holy Spirit works through all of us.
How many times have you felt that someone you know would be good at something, so you tell them they should think about it?
That is the Holy Spirit working through you.
We are all found, one way or another. Whether we choose to go with it, is up to us.
Matthew said yes. We can, too.
More to come...
