Happy Returns

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.
That's what came to mind when I read today's reading from Isaiah.
For as rain and snow fall from the heavens and return not again, but water the earth, Bringing forth life and giving growth, seed for sowing and bread for eating, So is my word that goes forth from my mouth; it will not return to me empty; But it will accomplish that which I have purposed, and prosper in that for which I sent it. - Isaiah 55:10-11
The reading talks about words and how they can spring forth life. Yet, my thoughts drifted elsewhere, to words that do the opposite.
They, too, may accomplish what we purpose, just as the words of God return victorious in their good deeds.
But imagine a day of only good words, a day when everything we say produces good thoughts and actions, returning to us as positive energy, love and peace. What would that day be like?
If we choose today and give it a test, how do you think it will turn out?
Today, Black Friday, is probably one of the most stressful days of the year, with everyone rushing about to get the best deals for Christmas. It seems odd, but with all those good intentions, people will be rude and nasty to each other.
So, why not turn that around and see what happens? Why not say only nice things to people today?
We know that nasty returns nasty most of the time. If I say something to you that is hurtful, chances are you will reply in kind, not in kindness. But today we can change that and return something better than we get.
We can have a day of only happy, positive returns, and true offerings of kindness with everything we say.
We probably won't change the world with a few kind words, but if Isaiah is right, the words will go out and produce more kindness.
So, join me in a day of kind words and positive actions, just to see what will happen. Who knows, we may like what we sow and harvest something truly good.
Happy shopping.
More to come...
