Hearing the Spirit

Sometimes we may not feel prepared for the work we need to do.
See, I am sending you out like sheep into the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Beware of them, for they will hand you over to councils and flog you in their synagogues; and you will be dragged before governors and kings because of me, as a testimony to them and the Gentiles. When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you at that time; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. - Matthew 10:16-20
Do you ever think that we may be challenged more in our daily lives at work and in our families than we are in our spiritual lives?
What Jesus was asking of his disciples was a big deal. They would be going out in the world to do his work, saving souls that may not want to be saved, and that meant confronting traditional viewpoints that didn’t want to be confronted.
We have a situation like this in our political arena today, where saying what you believe can cause some to want to persecute you. I wonder if both sides of he debate feel the Spirit is guiding them.
We think it is not possible for the Spirit to be divided against itself, but maybe we aren’t aware of the seeds of truth that may exist on each side.
If it is possible for us to see through the eyes of the other, perhaps we can see our perspective is not the only one.
Maybe we can hear the Spirit speaking through those we feel are wrong and perhaps they too can hear the same Spirit in us.
That would be the start of peace.
More to come...
