I Got This!

When is it a good time for a change?
Then Jesus said to Simon, 'Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.' When they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him. - Luke 5:10-11
Today's Gospel reading has an interesting twist in the story.
It begins with fishermen having worked all night and caught nothing, so their boats were empty. And it ends with full boats abandoned and the men leaving to follow Jesus.
After speaking to the crowd form the boat, Jesus instructed Peter to cast the nets one more time, resulting in such a large, catch two boats were needed to bring it in.
But was that what convinced them to follow him?
Was knowing they could always catch as many fish as they needed enough to help them walk away from their profession and be ready for a change?
We are probably most ready for a change in our lives when we have achieved a goal, completed a project or acquired mastery in a skill.
We can put that aside knowing it is done, and we can check off another box on our list.
I believe that is what this miracle was for the fishermen. Jesus helped them to achieve a level of accomplishment they did not know was in sight.
So what would it take for us to be ready for a change in our lives?
If we believe that with Jesus everything is achievable, then we could be like the fishermen knowing they could easily fill their boats whenever they wanted.
I could hear them saying, I Got This! I'm ready for something more challenging.
They are about to go out and tell people that God loves them and cares about them. They will show them that the work they have been doing is for their own benefit, but the work they could be doing is much greater. It is God's work.
They will hear about the coming kingdom and damnation and judgment, but they will also hear that they could be servant leaders, showing everyone how to love one another.
They could always go back to catching fish, if they needed to feed the hungry, so it is time to move on.
Now for all of my peers out there who have done the good work of making a living and caring for their families, now is the time to make a change, to do something new.
Look at all you have done and say, I Got This! Then go for the next level.
We can all spread the love, share the joy and be a friend.
It's time.
More to come...
