Impossible Missions

How many times do you face a difficult situation and feel you have no choice but to give up or give in, knowing it is impossible?
His disciples replied, 'How can one feed these people with bread here in the desert?' He asked them, 'How many loaves do you have?' They said, 'Seven.' - Mark 8:4-5
In today's Gospel reading from Mark, the disciples are faced with an impossible task, to feed four thousand people with seven loaves of bread and a few fish.
We know how it turns out, with seven baskets of left overs, but do we walk away with a feeling of endless possibilities, or do we just appreciate the story as another of Jesus' miracles?
I like to think there is a message in these readings, a message of hope.
Out of compassion, Jesus told his disciples to feed the people. He was not worried about how little they had, and he didn't want them to worry about that either. He just wanted them to do it.
What if we approached all challenges that way?
What if we set aside all reason for a moment and just plowed ahead, knowing or believing we were doing the right thing? What would we be able to accomplish?
I have come to look at everything I do this way.
If the task I undertake is something God wants me to do, He will provide possibilities where I see none. I shouldn't concern myself with how little I have, but think instead of those I am trying to help.
Some will question your sanity if you think this way, but that is OK. What do they know? Ask them to help and see them become believers as well.
Through Him all things are possible. Through Him, we gain strength to do what we never expected we could.
Today, I am praying for the impossible for my friends who are struggling with cancer, that they overcome the disease and find healing.
I am also praying for the impossible for the kids who live in Jerusalem and across the world, that they become the instruments of peace in their lifetime.
I pray for the strength to avoid the doubts that will come my way, for if I have the faith of a mustard seed, I can witness the movement of mountains.
Won't you pray and believe with me?
Let's do this.
More to come...
