In Due Time

How long do you wait for something?
Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. The glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the cloud. - Exodus 24:15-16
In today's reading we learn that when God calls, we wait.
Moses waited six days sitting in a cloud. What could he have been thinking?
When we call on God for help, we expect to wait. We expect to have to put up with His time and not ours, but when God calls us, for some reason, I think He should be ready to talk to us.
In Moses' case He wasn't.
We read that the glory of the Lord covered the mountain and settled on it. It was in this glory that Moses waited.
Perhaps it wasn't like waiting at all. Perhaps it was as the word implies, glorious.
One thing I believe we learn in God's presence is that God has a timeframe and a method of His own. He is both Father and Teacher.
While we wait, we discover more about Him and more about us.
Why are we always in such a rush, anyway? How much do we miss by rushing through life?
Be still, He tells us. That way we can come to know Him.
I am learning to be still, to wait, to have patience.
Maybe I am not done yet.
I think I will pause and think about that a bit. Maybe you should too.
More to come...
