International Peace

There is something hidden that we need to find.
The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it. - Matthew 13:44-46
One interpretation of these parables is that the hidden treasure is international peace.
Ray Stedman, in his blog, Authentic Christianity claims the man in these parables is Jesus, who has discovered peace in the world but will not reveal it until he comes again at the end time.
He claims that the people of Israel were chosen by God to be a symbol of peace, and the reigns of David and Solomon are examples of peace revealed, the hidden treasure in the field.
But now, that peace is hidden again, and it will not be revealed until the whole world comes to see an example of peace in Israel.
It is an interesting interpretation.
And if it is true, what are the prospects for a lasting peace today?
To say the treasure we all seek in this life is peace may be a stretch. I wonder sometimes if peace is desired by all, or even by many. It doesn't seem to be the objective of all, does it?
So, the question I have is this. If Jesus is the one who gave up everything for the treasure of peace, did he make a wise purchase?
So far, his investment has not paid off.
Should we be glad in that?
More to come...
