Jesus, the Man

Jesus is not all powerful.
Now God did not subject the coming world, about which we are speaking, to angels. But someone has testified somewhere, "What are human beings that you are mindful of them, or mortals, that you care for them? You have made them for a little while lower than the angels; you have crowned them with glory and honor, subjecting all things under their feet." Now in subjecting all things to them, God left nothing outside their control. As it is, we do not yet see everything in subjection to them, but we do see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. It was fitting that God, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many children to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through sufferings. - Hebrews 2:5-10
Jesus told us himself, saying that he can do nothing without the Father. And now, Paul says the same thing. Jesus is brought low to be like us, so he can show us how we can be made perfect like him.
Well, that's clear, right?
Okay, so maybe not so clear.
I cannot imagine anyone would do this, to give up their powers and become subjected to death without the power to avoid it.
I can imagine super hero movies that have a time where their powers don't work, but they must find a way out in order to go one and save the world. I don't believe we have seen a superhero give up their powers and sacrifice himself or herself to save the world.
But I could be wrong. There have been some weird Avengers movies lately.
The point is we tend to think of Jesus as God, snd so we discount what he does. He can do that, we say, he's God.
But what if he couldn't use his godly powers to do what he did? Would we say, wow, we could do the same?
No.
We wouldn't think that way. If we could do everything Jesus did, we would, wouldn't we?
Of course, we think about healing the sick first, and say we cannot do that, but our presence may be healing for someone. We might just have to be there.
So, maybe we need to be more like Jesus, the man, and stop thinking of him as all powerful.
We can be the all-holy part, and the power might come along for the ride.
More to come...
