Knowledge Base

What do we have that others don't have?
If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you. - John 14:15-17
In John's Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples that all who believe in him have an advocate, the Holy Spirit who dwells within and is there to teach and guide.
This is like having our own knowledge base on which to draw whenever we need it.
Why do we need an advocate?
Jesus goes on to say that the Spirit of Truth will continue to remind us of what Jesus taught, and we will be able to use that to help us navigate this world, which tends to be evil and dark.
Bad stuff may happen, but with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can deal with it.
The way I look at it, this life can be so much better if we rely on the Spirit to guide us and help us. Believing in Jesus is not just about reserving a place in the afterlife. It is about seeing the Kingdom of God in the every day life we live now.
The Holy Spirit gives us the ability to see more clearly that God's love abounds in this world as well as in all of creation.
So, in this Easter Season, let us focus on the Spirit as we read about how the Spirit will descend on the disciples and be with them forever.
We are already there. Alleluia.
More to come...
