Law Revisited

Sometimes the law can get in the way.
Just then, in front of him, there was a man who had dropsy. And Jesus asked the lawyers and Pharisees, Is it lawful to cure people on the sabbath, or not? But they were silent. So Jesus took him and healed him, and sent him away. Then he said to them, If one of you has a child or an ox that has fallen into a well, will you not immediately pull it out on a sabbath day? And they could not reply to this. - Luke 14:2-6
Today's reading makes me wonder if some of our laws may be outdated. Or perhaps they are still valid in principle, but they need revision.
Like the Pharisees, our leaders have been spending too much time arguing and accusing each other of failing to do the job, or failing to obey the law, that it is time they sit down and revisit the laws they are fighting over.
Then again, where is the reward in that?
The Pharisees didn't want to work with Jesus. They wanted him silenced, eliminated from the scene. He was trouble.
They were too invested in their ways.
Those who wanted the laws to be obeyed saw Jesus as someone inciting the crowd to break them, while Jesus saw the way the laws were being upheld as failing to take their original intent into account.
We have always had this conflict. This is nothing new to today.
So, shouldn't we be able to learn from these lessons?
When our laws cause conflict, they need to be revisited.
Period.
So, why don't we all pressure our law makers to get to work?
More to come...
