Life's Treasures

What do you treasure most?
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. "The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light; but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! "No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. - Matt. 6:19-24
The older I get, the more I realize that things don't matter much.
Sure, the basics are important, like having a roof over your head and food in the fridge, but beyond that, what do we really need?
What do we treasure more than life itself?
Nothing, really. Except, maybe the lives of those we love?
We come into the world with nothing but love. Before we have anything, love is there for most of us, in the eyes and arms of our family.
And in the course of living that life, those who were there when we arrived tend to go on before us, leaving us to be there to love and cherish those who come after us.
That is the treasure we have been given, the treasure we have to share and grow.
It is love.
And when we get to that point in our lives when we come face-to-face with our mortality, we are blessed if we are surrounded by those we love, those who love us.
For me, that is the greatest treasure of all.
More to come...
