Light Path

Did Moses know Jesus?
By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called a son of Pharaohs daughter, choosing rather to share ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered abuse suffered for the Christ to be greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to the reward. - Hebrews 11:24-26
In the epistle letter to the Hebrews, we have an interesting connection, that of Moses and the Christ.
Like Jesus who saved the people from the slavery of sin, Moses is saving the people from the slavery of Egypt.
The author tells us that God gave Moses a vision or understanding of the greater reward to come, the reward of eternal life for all who turn to Him.
We tend to think that Moses was following orders from God, out of fear perhaps, and not out of hope.
But imagine for a minute that Moses could see the future for God's people, and each time the people turned to idols and away form God, Moses could see them languishing in darkness, rather than living in the light.
It would certainly explain why Moses was so determined to get them back on track with each failing. His own future was tied to theirs. All would either live or perish together.
I think we have lost our connectedness to the rest of God's creation today.
We have turned our faith journey into a private affair, a lonely walk, just each of us searching for Jesus.
But Jesus told us not to go it alone. Two or more need to gather for him to be with us.
So, maybe we need a taste of the vision Moses had. Maybe we need to see the future as light or dark with each choice we make.
Maybe we need to come together and and walk in the desert as a community of the faithful.
If we don't, we might fail to find the light path.
