Those who understand won't listen. But those who don't understand, listen.
He said to me: Mortal, go to the house of Israel and speak my very words to them. For you are not sent to a people of obscure speech and difficult language, but to the house of Israel-- not to many peoples of obscure speech and difficult language, whose words you cannot understand. Surely, if I sent you to them, they would listen to you. But the house of Israel will not listen to you, for they are not willing to listen to me; because all the house of Israel have a hard forehead and a stubborn heart. See, I have made your face hard against their faces, and your forehead hard against their foreheads. Like the hardest stone, harder than flint, I have made your forehead; do not fear them or be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house. He said to me: Mortal, all my words that I shall speak to you receive in your heart and hear with your ears; then go to the exiles, to your people, and speak to them. Say to them, "Thus says the Lord God" whether they hear or refuse to hear. - Ezek. 3:4-11
God sends us out not to do what is easy but to do what is hard.
The people who don't understand what you are saying will listen, but those who do understand, people who speak the same language, will not listen.
Ezekiel is given a tough job.
We like to think that the prophets of old are the only ones God chose to do the talking for Him. I don't think that is the case.
By becoming one of us, as we Christians believe God did in Christ, God stepped up our game from obedient listeners to messengers.
Jesus talked to his disciples the way the Father spoke to the prophets, Come, listen and see, then go and tell people what you saw and heard.
So, when we go to church to hear the Word of God, that is our preparation for the work we are being asked to do. Go and tell what you saw and heard.
Duh.
It makes so much sense, doesn't it? We are to carry the light into the darkness. The light is the Word.
So, take what you read, see and hear, and share it, just like you do on social media. Like and Share.
