Living Wisely

Are you making the most of your time?
Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil. So do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. - Ephesians 5:15-17
I like to think I spend my time wisely, that I make good choices, that I try not to waste a moment.
But how do I know if I am doing what I need to do to make the most of this life?
In today's reading, Paul tells us to understand the will of the Lord, as if that is something we know how to do. What is His will for us. for me?
To live as one who has wisdom, I think I will need help. Wisdom doesn't come naturally, so I need something or someone to guide me in the effort.
This Sunday, we will experience the coming of the Holy Spirit in our celebration of Pentecost. What better source of wisdom could there be than the Holy Spirit?
Living wisely, therefore, must have something, if not everything, to do with living in the Spirit. It is through the Spirit that we come to know God.
Knowing and believing are not the same.
We believe through faith. We know through the wisdom and power of the Spirit.
When we let the Spirit guide us, all doubt dissipates. We become at ease, as one who is wise.
So, I guess the message is to welcome the Spirit into our lives each day, and be comfortable in it, doing the will of the Lord.
Maybe it is that easy.
And that is what makes it so hard.
More to come...
