Looking for Work
Ecclus. 44:19-45:5
To whom does God choose to reveal himself?

Abraham was the great father of a multitude of nations, and no one has been found like him in glory. He kept the law of the Most High, and entered into a covenant with him; he certified the covenant in his flesh, and when he was tested he proved faithful. Therefore the Lord assured him with an oath that the nations would be blessed through his offspring; that he would make him as numerous as the dust of the earth, and exalt his offspring like the stars, and give them an inheritance from sea to sea and from the Euphrates to the ends of the earth. To Isaac also he gave the same assurance for the sake of his father Abraham. The blessing of all people and the covenant he made to rest on the head of Jacob; he acknowledged him with his blessings, and gave him his inheritance; he divided his portions, and distributed them among twelve tribes. From his descendants the Lord brought forth a godly man, who found favor in the sight of all and was beloved by God and people, Moses, whose memory is blessed. He made him equal in glory to the holy ones, and made him great, to the terror of his enemies. By his words he performed swift miracles; the Lord glorified him in the presence of kings. He gave him commandments for his people, and revealed to him his glory. For his faithfulness and meekness he consecrated him, choosing him out of all humankind. He allowed him to hear his voice, and led him into the dark cloud, and gave him the commandments face to face, the law of life and knowledge, so that he might teach Jacob the covenant, and Israel his decrees. - Ecclus. 44:19-45:5
Here we have two men, Abraham, who is tested by God in a way that none of us could imagine, and Moses, saved at birth and raised up as a son to Pharaoh, only to lead his people to freedom.
Wow. God doesn't mess around when he chooses you, does he?
Would you want to be chosen by God?
While we might want the glamour and glory of being able to see or hear God in person, the responsibility that comes with that experience is daunting, to say the least.
What does God want me to do?
We may think we are off the hook, given our age or level of importance, but look at Abraham. Look how old and simple he was.
God chooses wisely. It is not up to us to decide whether we want to be one of God's chosen or not. Look at Moses, who said he was not capable of speaking for the people.
God will provide. He told him to let Aaron speak on his behalf.
When God has chosen you, you are it.
We can be called by God at any age, in any condition, for any purpose, whenever God has a need for us. You could say that is our purpose in life, to be ready for God to put us to work.
I look at it this way. Every day, I show up and report to God to see what it is He has for me to do that day. Some days the work is light, but on other days it can be tough, stretching my limits.
It's similar to when I used to report to the temporary job office to be assigned a job for the day while looking for work. That could be our purpose in life: to be looking for work day in and day out.
God has a job for us, whether we realize it or not. Sometimes it matches our skills perfectly, but sometimes it is a stretch. like it was for Moses. But it is always rewarding in the end, when we pat ourselves on the back and say, "Job well done."
Until tomorrow...
More to come...
