Love

I think we need a little love right now.
Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. - Romans 12:9-16b
We pride ourselves on the fact that we all come together in a crisis, and for a while that is exactly what we were doing, facing the pandemic as one.
But now we are back to fighting against one another, fomenting the hatred and anger that lies just beneath the surface, causing damage to one another, even death.
Where is the love?
Today's reading is about how different Jesus is from Moses. Moses delivered the laws of God and sat in judgment over the people in administering the laws. But Jesus came to free us from our own mistakes, to save us from judgment, when we turn to him seeking repentance.
When we are hurting, there will always be people who seek to take advantage of the pain we bear, people who can lead us astray. In his letter to the Romans, Paul says we should persevere in prayer. Our actions should be positive, weeping with those who weep, marching with those who march, acting out of love.
We see many who do this, but some look for revolt.
Some feel that is the only way to get justice, or at least attention to the problem. I pray that they are wrong, that the majority of us see the truth.
So, let us pray that the Holy Spirit guides us to do the right thing, so we may have a chance to heal.
More to come...
