Loveless

Without love, what is there?
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. - 1 John 4:7-8
I cannot imagine anyone living without love.
Love is such an integral part of our existence that I imagine all have felt it at some point in their lives, even if they do not now.
So, where does that love go? How can it start out as a part of our very being, our connection with God, and then dissipate leaving us loveless?
Is it something we choose to do, or is it the product of our circumstances?
Surely there are things we do to each other that are not done out of love. What causes us to turn cold, to abandon the fabric of ourselves and see one another as something other than what they are, children of love?
For those of us who know love, it may not even be possible to understand living without it. What kind of life could that be?
The amazing thing though is that all of us are loved, if not by each other, at least by God. And even those who do not love themselves are loved by someone.
So, love exists and is powerful, but it seems there is one thing it cannot do, and that is to put itself where it is not wanted.
We cannot force someone to love us, nor can we get them to love themselves. If there is no love in them, not only do they not know God, but they do not know themselves either.
So, I think we should pray for the loveless.
We should pray that they come to know love, and through love, to know themselves.
God is waiting.
More to come...
