No Limits

Imagine for a moment how marvelous the tales of those who travel would be if you had never traveled yourself?
In today's reading, Sirach talks about adventurers who take to the seas and encounter all sorts of amazing sea creatures, and experience things one cannot even imagine. And then he likens that to knowing God.
Glorify the Lord and exalt him as much as you can, for he surpasses even that. When you exalt him, summon all your strength, and do not grow weary, for you cannot praise him enough. Who has seen him and can describe him? Or who can extol him as he is? Many things greater than these lie hidden, for I have seen but few of his works. For the Lord has made all things, and to the godly he has given wisdom. - Sirach 43:30-33
Just because we think we understand the rules of this world, that doesn't mean we cannot be amazed and surprised by the things God can do.
He is not limited to what we think are the limits. He can take us to a whole other level.
Of course we don't have to go there. We are free to choose not to be amazed, not to be enlightened, not to see, not to hear.
The Bible recounts story after story of the explorers, the prophets, who went out and discovered what God has in store for us, and yet they were ignored by many.
So, God, determined to show us what life could be, sent a special prophet to bring us an intimate look at God himself, and he too was ignored, tortured and killed.
Those of us who think we got the message, worship and adore the one who was sent, but do we do what he taught? Do we learn from what he showed us?
It could be we miss the point altogether, and that's a shame.
It is one thing to hear the stories of great adventures and believe. It is another thing altogether to climb onboard and go.
More to come...
