No Satisfaction

Are you satisfied?
Ho, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you that have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to me; listen, so that you may live. I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David.- Isaiah 55:1-3
Isaiah talks about being satisfied in today's reading. He says there are things we strive for and obtain that do not feed us and things that do not bring us contentment.
That might be hard to understand if we don't have all that we think we need. And I think that is exactly what he is talking about.
If we have no food to put on the table, would we use what little money we have to buy a new television set?
But his message is confusing because one moment he is calling all who are thirsty to come and drink without having to pay for it, and then he tells them to eat what is good and have rich food.
How can they do this if they have no money?
In God's kingdom, all can be satisfied, all can have what they need, and more, feasting on the riches that are available to all.
Yet there are people who have great wealth who are not satisfied, who long for more than what money can buy.
When we set out to feed those who are hungry, sharing our riches with them, we provide much more than food. We give love and hope, which is worth so much more.
God's kingdom is overflowing with love. If we choose to be a part of it, we can be much more than satisfied, for God gives us the opportunity to be like Him, to share love without conditions, and in sharing, we receive.
So, I think Isaiah wants us to see ourselves as God's agents, spreading the wealth of love and the food of live to all who need it. In that way, we are fulfilled, and know true satisfaction.
Without love, what is there?
More to come...
