One Body

Are we together or not?
I speak as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ? Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread. 1 Corinthians 10:15-17
At the heart of our faith is the need to come together as one to work as one body, sharing in the joys and struggles of this life in the hope of sharing in an eternal life with Christ.
It is a need, not because we seek that reward, but because this life can be so demanding and at times quite brutal. We need each other, and we would need each other even if this is all there is.
Paul talks about sharing the cup and the bread, and in doing so, becoming one with Christ in his suffering, death and resurrection. It is symbolic, yes, but it also brings us strength, with spiritual nourishment to enable us to go on.
When we come together to work as one, we can accomplish so much more than we can do alone, and yet, for some reason, we continue to try to tackle the obstacles before us without help.
When one part of the body is hurt, the whole body feels the pain, and all work to heal.
So it should be when one member of the body of Christ is wounded or in pain.
Imagine the healing power we would have if each of us could channel the Holy Spirit within us to work on the one who is wounded. Wouldn't that be something?
I believe we have that power within us and we don't know how to use it.
So, why not give it a try? We can do it today. Let us call on the spirit to put healing strength in those we care about. The Spirit is big enough to reach everyone we know who is in pain or is weak and in need of help.
Maybe we can set aside some time each day to do this and together, as one body, we can heal the wounded parts, making all things new again.
More to come...
