Our Time

Have you ever felt like there was too little time to live the way you want?
At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, "Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you." He said to them, "Go and tell that fox for me, 'Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work. Yet today, tomorrow, and the next day I must be on my way, because it is impossible for a prophet to be killed outside of Jerusalem.' Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you. And I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say, 'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.'" - Luke 13:31-35
Jesus becomes angry with the Pharisees who come to tell him Herod wants him dead.
He knows the plan. As soon as he goes to Jerusalem, they will capture him and try to kill him, so he brushes them off.
I have work to do these next three days, so leave me alone, he says.
It sounds like he knows they won't come out for him. They will wait until he is in the city where they can make a spectacle of his arrest and trial, so what if he just stayed away indefinitely?
We know that was not in the plan. He will go to Jerusalem, and they will have him killed.
But for now, he has the upper hand.
He is calling the shots and he will decide when it is time to go.
The message for us may be one of strength and self direction.
Regardless of what lies ahead, for now, we are in control of our lives. We can decide where to go and what to do with our time, even if we know it is short.
This is our time and we can use it how we wish.
So, why not live in the moment and make the best of it?
It will be gone before we know it.
More to come...
