Partridge in a Pair Tree

Love is here.
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. Gods love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us. - 1 John 4;7-12
If you are an oldie like me, you might remember a song by The Partridge Family, the tv series of the early 1970s. The song was "I Woke Up In Love This Morning," and it had nothing to do with the birth of Baby Jesus or God at all.
The lyrics of the chorus are memorable and fun because they are suggestive of something else.
And I woke up in love this mornin'. I woke up in love this mornin'. Went to sleep with you on my mind.
When I read this excerpt from John's letter, it reminded me that late last night, the last thing on my mind was the coming of the baby Jesus, and the first thing this morning is a feeling of God's love.
I guess I should always go to sleep with God on my mind, and then I would always wake up in love, but I sometimes let other things creep into my thoughts, things like fears, anxieties, doubts, worries.
With God, there really is no place for these things in our lives, is there? All we need to know for certain is that God loves us. And He doesn't stop loving us, even when we are acting like fools and treating Him badly.
Love is born in us every morning, and it is up to us to keep that love alive throughout the day.
It shouldn't be hard.
Oh, and God became one of us to show us how, so let us all follow the lesson of the babe and just live a life of love.
Merry Christmas.
More to come...
