Pause Button

We have come to midweek in Holy Week, the point at which we have a moment to rest and think about what has happened and what lies ahead.
Jesus said to them, "The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. If you walk in the darkness, you do not know where you are going. While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light." - John 12:35-36
Yesterday, the clergy of the Diocese of New York celebrated a Mass of Congeniality, a coming together for a renewal of our vows. It was a reaffirmation of our commitment to serve God individually and together.
Today, we are back at work in the world, getting ourselves ready for the emotional rollercoaster of a journey that is to come.
Perhaps we are feeling a little like the disciples, hearing that Jesus must die and be resurrected. It is both disturbing and confusing.
But the message today is a positive one. The disciples are told to enjoy the light while they have it to walk in.
We can approach the day the same way, resting our assurance in the fact that the light is with us and carried by us as followers of Christ.
Knowing what lies ahead, we are told to pause and be present in this moment.
How hard is that to do?
Often I find myself agitated, thinking about all I have to do, all that is coming up, wondering how it will all get done. I spend so much time worrying about it, I miss the opportunity to be enjoy the time I have.
So, today, I will try not to worry about tomorrow, but will just focus on today.
I will hit the pause button and let the light envelope me.
There will be plenty of time tomorrow to handle what that day brings. Today I take a break.
More to come...
