Pressing On

Did you ever notice that some days just seem to be filled with problems?
See, I am sending you out like sheep into the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. - Matthew 10:16
I am not sure this is a good reading for today. I don't need to start the week being reminded that the world is harsh and people can be brutal toward one another.
I know that if I press on through adversity and stay true to my faith, I will be ok; I will survive the onslaught.
The message maybe about perseverance in the face of persecution, and while that is not a happy thought for a new week, it can be a hopeful one.
I am a fan of hope. There is so much in the world that can make me miserable, so I choose to look for the glimmering moments in the chaos and focus on them instead.
Psalm 199 says, Great is your compassion, O Lord.
Perhaps that is all I need to focus on this morning, as I prepare for my day. If God can be so compassionate, why can't I?
Why not face the adversity and uncertainty with the knowledge that God has my back, so I can be there for others? It makes sense, doesn't it, that He would like us to be like Him?
I believe if we face the day with hope and compassion, we will be beacons for those who began less off. I know that is true, because there are days when I am not ready for what will come my way. And it is on those days that I encounter someone God sent to be a beacon for me.
It is how He works, right?
I will send you out like sheep...
I guess that is what he means. We are wise to follow Christ and though we are seen as doves, we will prevail over darkness and adversity.
So, I go out seeking the light in others for my sake and being the light for those who need it, for their sake. And together, we press on.
More to come...
