Promised Land

To whom does this land belong?
After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses assistant, saying, My servant Moses is dead. Now proceed to cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the Israelites. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, as I promised to Moses. From the wilderness and the Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, to the Great Sea in the west shall be your territory. No one shall be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you. - Joshua 1:1-5
Today's reading is quite timely since today the United States is moving its embassy to Jerusalem.
Some will say it is about time, while others will see it as an obstacle to peace.
Can the land be both promised to one and owned by another?
It is not easy to understand God's ways. He gives and takes, and yet loves unconditionally. At least that is how we see Him as Christians. He is the Father of all. He is love.
So, He must have had a plan in mind when He chose to give this land to the wandering nomads freed from Egypt.
They are returned to their homeland, and at the same time, they claim land others call home.
I guess if we could make sense of it, we would have the key to peace in the Middle East, and that is still elusive.
So, we pray for understanding and we pray for peace, and history will record this day as a turning point, or it will be a non event.
We really don't know what will come of it, but we can be assured on one thing.
Much will be said about it, and many will be clueless.
More to come...
