Rainbows

It is raining again this morning.
Bloomberg reports that heavy rainfall in the Midwest has turned cornfields into lakes. Some blame climate change, citing that rainfall has been increasing since the mid Nineties.
And for those who acknowledge that change has taken place, many feel we are responsible. If so, where is God in all of this?
Like the bow in a cloud on a rainy day, such was the appearance of the splendor all around. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. When I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of someone speaking. - Ezekiel 1:28
Ezekiel compares God's presence to the glory of the rainbow, appearing after a rain, when the sun peeks through the clouds and the air is still moist and full.
The rainbow reminds us that the sun was always present, it's warmth blocked for a moment while the clouds emptied.
Noah saw the rainbow and believed that it was God's commitment to never have the rains destroy us completely again, and that should give us assurances that God is always with us.
The rains come and sometimes they come with disastrous consequences, and we may be forever changed, but the sun does return.
When it rains, people who depend on sunny days for work in construction and landscaping have no work, so they come to our community dining room for breakfast and lunch. We will be busy today.
We are their rainbow, reminding them that God's love is ever present, ready to serve, eager to feed and nourish, to get ready for the work that is to follow.
So, while the rain falls today, we will do our best to shine a little light on our corner of the world so those who come can find hope and joy, comfort and peace.
And we will bathe in the sun together, knowing God loves us.
If you need some sun, come and join us. There is always room for one more.
More to come...
