Recharged

What we have accomplished may give us a false sense of security.
‘And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the origin of God’s creation: ‘I know your works; you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were either cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit you out of my mouth. For you say, “I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing.” You do not realize that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. - Revelation 3:14-17
We all need something more than what we have.
The angel is telling the rich people of Laodicea that they are fooling themselves to think they need nothing but their wealth.
Sometimes, our successes can distract us from what is truly valuable, and that is how we can get ourselves lost.
I believe we go through cycles in life. We begin with high hopes for ourselves and we relish in each minor accomplishment, knowing that better things lie ahead. The momentum keep us going, and though we may stumble and fall a few times, we remain optimistic.
We are not yet wealthy in riches, but we are wealthy in spirit. We don't give up because we have faith in the future.
But there comes a time when the future starts to look bleak or at least less promising. And it is then that we start to feel poor in spirit.
No amount of physical wealth can make things better, but we continue to believe it could.
I encounter people for whom the daily obstacles are great. They have no place to sleep, no secure area what can hold their meager stuff without the fear of being robbed, no hope anything will get better tomorrow.
They need help and help usually means money, but in addition to that, they need their spirit recharged. They need to believe in themselves and the future again.
That's how we can help, as God's agents here on earth. We can help recharge failing spirits in people we encounter. When we do that, we will stop being poor in spirit ourselves, and we will see what truly matters.
More to come...
