Revealed

When something you believed to be true is revealed to you and now proven, how does that make you feel?
We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven, while we were with him on the holy mountain. So we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. - 2 Peter 1:16-21
For some of us, validation is great. It confirms what we believed we knew and gives us the boost we need to go on, to do even greater things.
But for some, validation can have the opposite effect.
For them, the mystery and uncertainty create the motivation to move forward. I am going to prove to the world that this is true, that I have uncovered the secret.
If someone comes along and publishes a paper in a scientific journal or makes a speech at a TED talk claiming this thing as their own, the air comes out of the balloon and it falls to the earth like a sheet.
The challenge of discovery is what drives some of us to do great things, and once the discovery is made known, we lose interest.
I wonder if some of the disciples had that reaction to the news from God that Jesus was the true Messiah, the Son of God.
Obviously Peter was motivated to lead the church, but what about some of the others?
If we are filled with faith, and we believe The Holy Spirit is guiding us, do we need proof?
I am pretty confident that Jesus is not going to appear before me and tell me I am doing the right thing, so for me, faith is what I lean on.
As best as I can tell, The Holy Spirit is giving me all the help I need, so I'm not complaining.
More to come...
