Right Leader?

When the dust settles, and all the votes are counted, where will we be?
The government of the earth is in the hand of the Lord, and over it he will raise up the right leader for the time. - Sirach 10:4
Silly things catch my attention, like the fact that this verse is 10:4. In 10-code, 10-4 generally stands for "Clear." When all I have to say is said, I send that message. Clear. Done. Your turn to speak.
There is a bit of irony in that perhaps since the choice for leader of this country has been anything but clear for many. But let's not dwell on the ridiculous nor the sublime and instead deal with the verse itself.
Will God raise up the right leader for our time? I hope so, but I have to admit that our choices don't seem to be evidence of that.
The choice for many could not be any clearer, since it appears t o be between opposites. I want one extreme and you want another. So, when we are done choosing, will we be able to accomplish anything?
Maybe that is the point.
If God has a hand in this selection process, it may be hands off. Let us choose and see how we work it out.
We couldn't be more polarized than we are now, so the chances of working together post-election seem slim if non existent.
When all is said and done, we will have made our bed and we will have to lie in it.
God knows that we don't learn by instruction. We have to live through the experience to understand. And that is what will happen when we make our choice in November.
Regardless of who wins, many will feel we avoided disaster, and perhaps that God helped us in that.
So, we will give Him credit for our decision, and that will take the responsibility off us.
That's good, because the last thing we may want is to be accountable for the outcome.
The right leader for our time will definitely be someone who fails to get the support of many, and that will mean we need to do a lot of work to come together as a people. Will we be able to do that?
I pray we will. Maybe that is where God comes in. God help us.
More to come...
