Second Thoughts

When do you know you have made a mistake?
When people began to multiply on the face of the ground, and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that they were fair; and they took wives for themselves of all that they chose. Then the Lord said, "My spirit shall not abide in mortals forever, for they are flesh; their days shall be one hundred twenty years." The Nephilim were on the earth in those days-- and also afterward-- when the sons of God went in to the daughters of humans, who bore children to them. These were the heroes that were of old, warriors of renown. The Lord saw that the wickedness of humankind was great in the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, "I will blot out from the earth the human beings I have created-- people together with animals and creeping things and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them." But Noah found favor in the sight of the Lord. - Gen. 6:1-8
We don't like to think of creation as one of God's greatest mistakes, but God did, or did He?
This wasn't His first failure, kf we can call it that. The original plan was to live in peace in the garden, and that didn't work out, did it?
Now, after generations of propagation, God is disgusted with what humanity has become.
Time for a do-over?
His first thought was to eliminate all of it, but something changes his mind. Noah.
All it takes is one good man to spark the hope of the whole world. God found favor in Noah and didn't want him to die.
But for Noah to live, all the creatures of the earth had to be saved as well.
That's a big task, and God knew just who to give it to. That's right. Noah.
The job of saving all of creation came down to one man, and that was a big job indeed. This one man would have to corale the world's species into a boat he would have to build, and he and his family would be the caretakers of life on this planet.
Wow.
I wonder who would take on that role today, but then I think about it and there are people who do this every day.
The Noahs of the world man boats to rescue the elderly trapped in their homes during a storm and flood.
The Noahs of the world pull people from burning vehicles on the highway.
The Noahs of the world rush to a patient's bedside to catch them before they fail, and bring them back to life.
The Noahs of the world are not as rare as they were in Noah's day, are they? And that is a good sign, because we now know that God can have second thoughts.
And we don't want that to happen again, do we?
More to come...
