Seekers

If any door could be opened for you, which door would you choose?
"Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened." - Matthew 7:7-8
Today's Gospel reading is filled with hope.
It tells us that all we need to do is ask and we will receive, search and we will find, knock and have doors open. But that doesn't always seem to work for me.
Yesterday a spent more than an hour searching for something and not finding it, even though I was sure I knew where I had put it.
Now you might say that I didn't find it because I stopped searching, and that would be true, so maybe there is more to this than just asking, searching or knocking. Maybe we need to stick with it.
I happened to stop looking, not because I had given up, but because I had someplace to go, so I guess I could be back at it now.
If I have faith, I will continue to search until I find what I am seeking.
Last night we attended our grandson's baseball game where he had a couple of great hits. He has always been a powerful hitter, but an injury sidelined him for a while and it has been a rough road back.
He can be hard on himself, beating himself up when he fails, but he doesn't quit.
I think that is what Jesus expects from all of us, to keep pushing, keep at it until we connect and send the ball flying.
If we are true seekers, we keep seeking, we don't give up and admit defeat. For once we stop searching, stop asking and stop knocking, we lose.
More to come...
