Show Me

If I want you to believe something, don't I have to show you?
Then Jesus said to him, "Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe." The official said to him, "Sir, come down before my little boy dies." Jesus said to him, "Go; your son will live." The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started on his way. - John 4:48-50
I believe the miracles Jesus performed served a purpose and were not just to help the people they touched.
All his miracles, curing the sick, feeding the hungry and bringing people back from death to life were signs so we would believe he could give us eternal life.
We are more likely to believe he has come to save us if we see him saving people.
When he feeds the five thousand with just a few loaves, we believe he is the source of heavenly bread, just as he says.
John's Gospel is the gospel of signs. He wants us to make the connection between the actions Jesus performed on earth and the life we could have as believers with him.
Without the signs, would we believe?
Perhaps some would, but even his disciples needed something more than His words.
So, I guess it is normal to doubt, since we accept that we all need help believing, but we should not forget that the signs Jesus gave were just an example of the life we have in Him.
This life we live now can be better if we believe in Him. I truly believe that, but I also put my faith in the promise of everlasting life through Him.
I may not fully understand what that means today, but the signs point to something great, and I am ok taking that road.
More to come...
