Simply Human

Why do we believe we can accomplish our goals without God's help?
‘I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge; and my judgement is just, because I seek to do not my own will but the will of him who sent me. - John 5:30
Every time I think I have it all planned out, something comes along to mess things up.
That should be expected, right? After all, this is life. Things don't always go according to plan. And yet I get angry. I wonder if Jesus ever felt that way. He did seem to get a bit angry when his mom approached him at Cana, so maybe his first reaction was simply human.
If we believe, as He did, that God is the source of all, then it must have been God's will that Jesus could turn the water into wine. So, maybe that is how we should look at things when the goal seems to slip farther away.
If it is God's will, we will be able to fix it. It's not that God will fix it for us, but we will have the wisdom and power to do what seems impossible right now.
It may have been easier though in Jesus' time to believe God was calling the shots. If something bad happened, it was God punishing us. So, to put things in God's hands was normal. But to believe we could act on God's behalf was a sacrilege. So, even though the people had the right idea, they messed it up.
If they only believed they could be an instrument in God's hands, imagine what they could have done.
But we twisted that concept and accepted the idea that God is hands-off, that He doesn't work for us or through us. We are on our own.
When we go through life alone, we are simply human. We are disconnected from God, so we can't do everything we set out to do. We fail.
But when we connect with God and trust in Him, amazing results can be achieved. We just have to believe. He will give us the strength to move forward.
And ideas will come.
So, be positive and know that God is there. We are not alone, and we are not simply human in his hands.
More to come...
