If you suddenly need help, do you know where to find it?
Then Isaiah is so bold as to say, "I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me." - Romans 10:20
It has been a year since I took this job helping to feed the hungry and I have learned a great deal about what works and what doesn't work for people who are living on the fringes.
Help doesn't easily find those who need it.
In today's reading, Paul reminds us that God reaches out to those who don't even know to seek Him out for help. How does He do that?
One way, I believe, is through us. It is much easier for us to connect with others than it is for them to discover that God is with them.
If I take the time to sit and talk with someone, I will learn a great deal about them, and in the conversation, even if I have nothing else to offer, they may find peace.
When we look at the problems in the world from a distance, we get a distorted view of the problems. And without knowing what the problems really are, we may wind up thinking we know what the solutions should be.
But what if we are wrong in thinking we can change the world without getting involved in it?
For us to help God find those who are not seeking Him and to show Him to those who do not ask, we need to get personal with God's children, all of them.
Think about it. If you have ever had someone just come up to you out of the blue and say something that changed your outlook, you know How God works. He sends us to be Him.
So, today, as I go out to do the work I believe is God's work for me, I will look for opportunities to enter into the spaces God is waiting to fill and connect with those who didn't ask.
Who knows what will come of it? I may just make a friend for life.
More to come...
