Team God

There is a place for each of us.
‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling-places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.’ - John 14:1-4
Today is the feast day for St. Thomas, called the twin, known as the one who doubted the Resurrection of Jesus.
In some ways, Thomas can be the voice of all of us, questioning Jesus to understand what his metaphors mean.
Where are you going? How do we know the way?
I wish he had asked more questions, like what are these many rooms? What is it like where you are going?
We get all caught up in the words that follow, where Jesus says he is the way, and you know the father through him. He is talking to his disciples, so what other way would there be for them?
The real question is do we want to know God?
I am sure our lives are better here and now if we choose to know God, rather than ignore His presence and struggle alone.
The place Jesus is preparing for his followers may be different from other places, but all are in God's house, so we can choose not to dwell on what happens to those who don't believe in Jesus, or we can try to convince them that our path is better.
I believe the difference starts here.
We choose to be followers and that means we love one another and care for one another as a family, a body of Christ.
People of other faiths may do that too, but we know we have the Holy Spirit with us to guide and support us in the struggle, and that knowledge is a big help.
We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
So, let us be like Thomas today and question. But let us also accept and believe, knowing we have access to God through Jesus and he Spirit.
What a team!
More to come...
