Terror Reigns

I wonder what will cease these countless acts of terror that plague us daily.
LORD, how many adversaries I have! how many there are who rise up against me! How many there are who say of me, "There is no help for him in his God." But you, O LORD, are a shield about me; you are my glory, the one who lifts up my head. - Psalm 3:1-3
In today's reading from the Book of Psalms, we have a ray of hope. Those who commit acts of terror have no hope in God. Only those who believe have God as their shield.
But what needs to happen for these acts to stop?
Almost daily we see individuals acting seemingly on their own against crowds and diplomates, and I wonder if they are truly acting on orders, or if the terror that has been unleashed is now out of anyone's control.
If it is, then perhaps even those who set the chain reaction in motion are worried.
I like to believe that those who play with fire, are destined to be burned by it. It could be that is how God sets the world right, by letting evil run its course, turning it against itself.
While we haven't seen examples yet of acts of terror against the sources of terror, they may be happening and we just don't know it.
Evil knows no master. It infects those who cultivate it and eventually destroys all it encounters. So, what is our hope, if not in God?
I truly believe that our faith will lead us to victory over evil, but we need to be together on this. We have let ourselves be swayed by politics and petty foolishness, becoming a house divided.
If we in this nation and in all the nations of the world truly want the terrorism to stop, we need to stand solidly in our faith and encourage those who lead us to be strong.
But whatever we do, if we choose to do it without God's help, we will fail.
So, let us put aside our anger and bitterness and come together so we can defeat the evil that reigns all around us.
If we don't, we will be consumed by it.
More to come...
