This is not a test

Are you ready to let God in?
Do not fret yourself because of evildoers; do not be jealous of those who do wrong. For they shall soon wither like the grass, and like the green grass fade away. Put your trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and feed on its riches. Take delight in the Lord, and he shall give you your heart's desire. Commit your way to the Lord and put your trust in him, and he will bring it to pass. He will make your righteousness as clear as the light and your just dealing as the noonday. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him. - Psalm 37:1-7
The psalmist tells us to have faith in God, for God is doing great things in our lives that we may not see, not yet.
It's all about patience.
We used to think everything in this life was a test of our commitment and devotion to God, but I don't think that holds true anymore. This is not a test.
I believe God wants us to enjoy this life, not suffer through it, even though some do. We all need to be patient.
I take a clue from nature, which is also God's creation. Nature adapts to change better than we realize. In fact, one could argue that evolution is part of God's plan for survival, but that type of change is long term. In the short term, change is in our control.
As a people, we are on the verge of some amazing capabilities which hold the promise or threat of shifting some control of destiny to us as humans. Gene editing is one of those capabilities that pose chilling consequences.
We don't know the bigger picture. Only God does. And because we are impatient, we will take on the job of doing God's work.
Our descendants will live with the consequences of anything we do, of everything we do and don't do.
So, if we are willing to take the risk and make monumental changes on a whim, why are we so reluctant to make small changes in our lives which can improve the lives of those around us?
Maybe this period of Lent is just the right time to stop and think.
What does God have planned for us, for me?
And how can I be ready to accept it?
It is time to be still and listen.
More to come...
