To Serve Us

Who are we that Jesus would come to serve us?
A dispute arose among the disciples as to which one of them was to be regarded as the greatest. But Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors. But not so with you; rather the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. “You are those who have stood by me in my trials; and I confer on you, just as my Father has conferred on me, a kingdom, so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” - Luke 22:24-30
To serve others is to emulate Jesus, for Jesus offered us a place at the table with him serving.
It doesn't seem right to sit and enjoy the meal while he serves, but that is the lesson God wants us to learn.
We are not just invited to be among those who serve, but also to sit with those who are served and be served as well.
Ours is a ministry of inclusion and acceptance.
We welcome all to the table, we serve them, and then we sit alongside them and enjoy the meal together, talking and becoming friends.
It is an amazing thing that God has done for us and with us.
We are to be both the least and the greatest.
So, consider this.
When you decide it is time to have a dinner for friends, invite someone new to the table. Serve them and sit with them. Share with them and get to know them.
It may just be the most rewarding meal you can have.
More to come...
